HI! I’m Nikki Novo
I’m an author, a psychic and intuitive — with a crazy impressive gift that I am still trying to figure out — a mother of three, a wife, a city-turned-country girl, and a Latina raised in Miami who now lives in the mountains of NC.
I started this Substack because I wanted a place where I could honor my talents. Honor the little creative child within me.
I know that sounds cheesy.
But I’m 41 now and adulting has snuck on me in a big way. Has that happened to you?
Like…you look around at life and everything you suddenly realize that almost everything you do seems to carry so much weight.
On a daily basis, I worry if my words are going to send my kids to therapy one day.
And I think about wether I’ve hugged my husband enough to keep our relationship burning years after the kids leave the house.
As a small business owner, I’ve become successful, which is something I’ve always wanted. And simultaneously I am so grateful for. But somehow that success has a way of turning almost everything that was fun and curious into an object to overthink, obsess over and fear.
Substack feels… interesting. Maybe fun? I’m not sure yet. But it definitely feels free. So that is why I am here.
To be free with you.
Why Rosa?
When I was born, my older brother was barely two years old.
My mother was teaching him colors. She sat him on her lap, while they stared at me through the glass window of the hospital baby nursery.
She asked, “What color is your sister?”
(she asked in Spanish)
“Rojo!” my brother replied
(Rojo is the color red in Spanish)
“No, your sister isn’t red,” my mom responded. “She is rosa.”
My newborn skin was definitely a shade of red, but my mom saw me through the rose-colored glasses only a mom has.
From then on, my name was “La Rosa.”
Whenever the wave of adulthood — the bills, the news, the responsibilities — try to trample me, I remember that at my essence, I am La Rosa. An artist in the child-like kind of way.
My hope is this space we share together reminds you of the creative child within you, as well.
What You can Expect from Rosa
If I’m being honest with you, I still figuring it out.
For now, you can watch me embark on the clunk, messy part of creativity. The stage in creation when everything is ugly, and it doesn’t really look like much —like those funny looking baby sonogram photos we’re all supposed to look at and find cute.
Rosa is in its beginning stages of creation, and I’m not completely sure what it will be just yet.
I do have a feeling that it will be a publication.
A publication for those who seek to unearth the creativity within us that might have been overlooked as a child.
A publication for those who seek to live their version of a creative life.
And because currently my form of that is figuring out farm life, how to grow flowers, raising loving kids, and building a business with my husband… this publication will have a lot of that.
I hope to show you beautiful things (beautiful, not perfect), creative spaces, and inspiring people.
That’s all I know for now.
Watch me create, unearth, and set free Rosa.
